CAPTURING THE ESSENCE OF THE ATLANTIC COAST FROM A SURFER’S PERSPECTIVE

David Gonville is a contemporary artist based in New England. His work explores coastal ecosystems from a surfer’s perspective. The seascapes that emerge in Gonville’s work reference his personal experiences in the ever-changing coastal environment of the Atlantic Ocean, where he surfs all year. His abstract landscapes are inspired by the 200+ acres of farm and forests he actively conserves on the southern coast of New England.

I paint to convey moments when I feel most connected to nature. The feeling I have when I’m in the ocean in winter, working in a summer field, or standing on a hill watching the waves rolling in…

Gonville transcribes changing weather patterns, open space, peaceful environments, and mindfulness into his work. Through his process of exploring the intersection of climate and the coast, Gonville hopes to highlight the importance of preserving our most precious natural resources.

Gonville’s encaustics and sustainable mixed media work can be found in private collections and galleries around the world.
